UP Tech Spotlight: Van Straten Enterprises

VAN STRATEN ENTERPRISES, AN UPPER PENINSULA BASED TECHNOLOGY COMPANY, HAS REVEALED THEIR INNOVATIVE SOLAR POWERED ELECTRIC CAR CHARGING TECHNOLOGY IN A RECENT PARTNERSHIP WITH FORD
WHO IS VAN STRATEN ENTERPRISES?

Van Straten Enterprises (VSE) is one of Michigan’s premier metal fabricators based right here in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. Calling Chassell, MI its home since 1964, VSE has become a preferred contract manufacturer for a slew of Fortune 500 companies.

George Van Straten, principal inventor, designer and developer for VSE who has been developing and patenting innovative products for the automotive and renewable energy industry since the mid 1980’s, has recently innovated the way we charge electric vehicles (EV) by harnessing the power of the sun. The VSE patent pending X3 solar generator/charging system “X3 DC Charge” is a first of its kind technology designed to provide energy solutions outside of EV charging stations.

WHAT IS VSE’S X3 SOLAR TECHNOLOGY, AND HOW DOES IT WORK?

VSE’s patent pending X3 DC Charge is a technological innovation that is the first of its kind. The goal of the X3 is to provide energy solutions for electric vehicles outside of EV charging stations, allowing users to charge their EV anywhere that receives sufficient sunlight.

The X3 technology comes neatly packaged in a hood and windshield solar panel/sun shade that is removable, flexible, storable and easy to attach to a parked vehicle. In addition to the removable EV charging solutions, VSE also offers permanently fixed X3 solar panels that attach to the roof and rear windows of the vehicle.

The X3 solar technology is a promising energy solution to all EV’s, and is even compatible with RVs, boats, golf carts, and off-road vehicles.

A SPECIAL APPEARANCE ON THE “BEST IN SHOW” 2022 FORD MUSTANG MACH-E

When Ford showcased their “Best in Show” & “Car of the Year” award winning Mustang at the 2021 Speciality Equipment Market Association show, Ford chose to include VSE’s X3 solar panels on the car’s body.

Jill Van Straten, CEO of VSE, commented on their recent recognition by stating, “The SEMA Show and having our solar product on the Ford Mustang Mach-E has been an amazing experience. To be recognized as one of the top five trending vehicle models at the show, and first in our category, is beyond exciting and really showcases what our company is accomplishing in the solar energy field. We also just received word that Ford will be adding our solar charging system into their aftermarket parts division program, and will eventually add it into their OEM level program as well.”

TECHNOLOGICAL INNOVATION IN MICHIGAN’S UPPER PENINSULA

Technology is being innovated every single day right here in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, the home to a growing technology based economy that is providing native residents to the region jobs that allow them to stay.

Born out of the Sisu culture (learn more here) that prominently shows itself here in the Upper Peninsula is a technology movement led by local innovators such as Troy Morris of Kal Morris Inc who is hard at work innovating technology that will be used to collect space trash, and Marc Blom of Able Medical Devices who is a leader in medical device manufacturing and development.
