How TerraHike Outdoors is Making Camping Simpler
Hiking poles and tents have been essential pieces of camping gear for decades. TerraHike Outdoors founder Evan BeVier saw an opportunity to rethink both.
The result is the Trek-Tent, a quick set up tent that can be deployed in under 60 seconds and packed down into a hiking staff for easy transport. Developed while Evan was studying Mechanical Engineering Technology at Northern Michigan University, the Trek-Tent was designed to simplify camp setup, giving people more time to enjoy the outdoors.
Building an Idea
While studying at Northern Michigan University, Evan spent plenty of time hiking and camping around Marquette. Those experiences gave him insight into the gear people rely on outdoors and inspired him to rethink one of camping’s most essential pieces of equipment.
That idea became the Trek-Tent.
As development continued, Evan connected with Innovate Marquette to help move the concept toward commercialization. Like many entrepreneurs, the journey wasn’t only about creating a product, it was about refining the design, validating the market, and building the brand.
Reaching the Market
In early 2025, TerraHike Outdoors launched its first Kickstarter campaign. The response exceeded expectations, surpassing its funding goal. To produce the first round of Trek-Tents, TerraHike partnered with Tentsile, fulfilling Kickstarter orders and bringing the product to customers for the first time.
Today, the Trek-Tent is available for purchase through TerraHike’s website.
Looking Ahead
With its first production run complete, TerraHike Outdoors is focused on growing its ecommerce business and introducing more people to the Trek-Tent.
As the company enters its next stage, Evan remains grateful for the support he’s received from the Marquette community and the opportunity to build his business in the Upper Peninsula.
